'Stories of Her Sisters' poetry book

'Stories of Her Sisters' is a volunteer-led collection of illustrated poetry in celebration of women and girls to mark International Women’s Day 2021. Proceeds from each sale will support Human Appeal's Al Imaan Hospital for Women and Children in Syria. Supporting medical care in war-torn Idlib.

As we approach ten years of devastating conflict in Syria, millions are still without access to quality medical care, especially women and children who are often worst-affected by war.

In Syria alone, there are a staggering 6.6 million people displaced; forced from their homes into makeshift tents in overpopulated camps, with no stable access to basic necessities like food, clean water or medical care.  80 percent of those displaced are women and children. The healthcare system in Syria has collapsed, with facilities deliberately targeted in airstrikes, leaving pregnant women, mothers and children with few places to turn to seek treatment.

In 2014, we established Al Imaan Hospital in Aleppo in response to the growing need for maternal and paediatric care for those affected and displaced by the conflict in the area. In August 2019, the facility was bombed, evacuated and forced to close. We have since reopened in Sarmada, Idlib, where we are able to provide round the clock care for pregnant women, mothers and their children, in addition to anyone requiring emergency medical treatment. The only maternity and children’s hospital of its kind in the area, Al Imaan is a lifeline that serves a population of around 100,000, most of whom are displaced.

In the last six months alone, Al Imaan has supported over 45,000 people and has safely delivered almost 3,000 babies.

For just £8 you can help save lives in Syria

As brutal violence continues in Syria, the demand on health services remains critical, and we need your help to keep Al Imaan Hospital's doors open and saving lives. By purchasing 'Stories of Her Sisters' for just £8 (plus £2.50 UK-only postage), you will be helping to ensure that pregnant women, new mothers and their babies can keep accessing lifesaving and life-sustaining healthcare.

This International Women's Day, join us in celebrating the progress and achievements of women, and the tireless passion of our wonderful superhuman volunteers for inspiring global change.
